#6. Exception To The Rule: “I don’t like Americans.”
This was said to an American woman by a British dude … and two years later, they got married. This is the exception to the rule of negging; if you pick something general and playful — like the whole British vs. America culture war — you aren’t insulting her (you’re insulting her country, but that’s another story) and you’re giving an opening to start a back-and-forth bickering conversation, which can occasionally be kind of fun. Plus, she has incentive to prove you wrong, and you know we love a good challenge. If you have an authentic accent from another country, try it and see where it goes.
