MYTH #5: YOU DON'T NEED TO FLOSS IF YOU USE TOOTHPICKS You always need to floss. And not only that, but toothpicks can damage tooth enamel, lacerate gums, cause broken teeth, and make you look like you're trying too hard. That said, if brushing and flossing aren't an option, a gently used toothpick can do some good. MYTH #6: TOOTH ENAMEL IS EASILY COMPROMISED This is sort of true, sort of not. Tooth enamel is the tough outer surface layer on teeth that protects against tooth decay, and it's the hardest thing on your body. (Insert boner joke here.) Yet despite being harder than bone, enamel can still be decimated by Sour Patch Kids, soda, and neglect.
