In Back to the Future Part II, October 21, 2015 was the date Marty McFly arrived in the future. When he stepped out of Doc Brown’s DeLorean his new world consisted of flying cars, Nike shoes that laced up automatically, a vastly improved weather-predicting technology, hoverboards, and 3D hologram movie promos.
Of course, some of the Back to the Future 2 predictions didn’t come true: the Chicago Cubs didn’t win the World Series, flying cars and hoverboards are a no-go, and 3D movies, for the most part, are a bust. That said, noodling over what the film franchise got right and wrong got us thinking about how, even after more than two decades, all three are still infectiously rewatchable. They’re also filled with Easter eggs. After some digging, we found some interesting news, gossip, and behind-the-scenes stories about Back to the Future, including …
1. Marty McFly worried about becoming gay, according to this deleted scene. Thankfully, the idiotic scene was cut.
2. A film executive stupidly suggested calling the original Back to the Future film Spaceman from Pluto. We presume everyone in the pitch meeting pointed at that person and shamed them until the dumbbell with the dumb suggestion burst into tears. We hope, anyway.
3. Jaws 19, which was playing at theaters in Back to the Future Part II, got a trailer to coincide with “Back to the Future Day” on October 21, 2015 — the date Marty McFly went into the future to stop his dopey kid from acting like a dope.
