Good First Date Topics: Play It Safe
Avoid making a fool of yourself (and those awkward silences) by sticking to the conversation starters listed below.

No matter how many times you do it, going on a first date is bound to trigger some serious jitters. Looking for a way to beat the pre-date nerves? Go prepared with this list of good first date topics.
If you met your date through a shared friend or family member, ask how she knows the person. Chatting about mutual acquaintances is usually safe, and it might even lead to a few funny stories.
Television, Movies and Music
The goal of a first-date conversation is to find common ground, so dig into your well of pop-culture knowledge to find a few things you both love. Who knows? Maybe she adores Game of Thrones just as much as you do.
Travel and Vacations
Good first date topics give you insight into the other person’s life without causing any unintentional drama, and no topic is easier to chat about than travel. Ask her about her favorites beaches, the best ski spots or where she went during her first spring break: anything that gets the conversation flowing.
Hobbies and Interests
This one may seem like a no-brainer, but too many guys get so caught up in the first-date jitters that they forget to find out what she likes. Don’t worry about being suave; simply ask what she’s into and take an interest in her replies.
Ambitions and Goals
You might want to save this one for a little later in the evening, but ambitions and goals always make good first date topics. Where does she see herself in five years? What’s her life’s biggest dream? You might discover that you both have the same passions.
