1) WALK AWAY
This is easier said than done — especially when the reason you’re angry is some dickhead — and not always physically possible. But if you’re at an impasse with someone (or something) and you’re able, go do something else and then revisit the situation later. The pause may help you phrase your argument in a more constructive way, help you understand a point the other person was attempting to make, or realize that it’s not even worth your time and energy.
2) TAKE DEEP BREATHS
Yeah, it sounds like B.S., but it actually works. Go somewhere private, shut your eyes, and take deep breaths (inhale through the nose, exhale through the mouth) for 30 seconds. Anger increases your heart rate and blood pressure, and when you breathe deeply it sends calming messages to your brain.
