Study: Red Wine Doesn’t Improve Heart Health

New research published in JAMA International Medicine claims the antioxidants in red wine don’t improve heart health. For many of us who used the presumed healthiness of wine as an excuse to down a glass or seven each night, it’s heartbreaking. Not as heartbreaking as finding out Froot Loops are all the same flavor, but it’s up there.

The small studied monitored 783 Italian men and women over 65 years old between 1998 and 2009. The researchers found that there was no link between the antioxidant resveratrol — which is also found in chocolate and grapes — and inflammation, heart disease, or cancer.

This can’t be good news for the $30 billion a year resveratrol supplement industry. However, we doubt it’ll affect the wine industry since pounding wine is still a cheap and effective way to get hammered.
