3. Fish Oil Might Cause Cancer
A recent study from Seattle’s Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle linked taking fish oil supplements to an increased risk in prostate cancer. Kind of terrifying, until you consider the fact other docs have found that taking supplements might reduce prostate cancer risk. So who do you believe? Great question. Our advice: Proceed with caution, and don’t take more than the recommended amount. Just keep in mind that we’re no doctors — scrubs make us look fat.
4. Fresh is Best
The cancer controversy, understandably, caused fish-oil supplement companies to freak out. They claimed the effect may have been caused because of the oxidization that occurred in the oil over time, which has been linked to health problems. Basically, if you’re ready to pop a pill, make sure the bottle isn’t expired.
