- L.A. Declared “Freddy Krueger Day” In 1991, Which Pissed Off A Lot of People
Back In 1991, Tom Bradley, who was the mayor of Los Angeles at the time, proclaimed September 13th (a Friday the 13th) as “Freddy Krueger Day.” This was done because a majority of the movie itself was shot in that particular city. What’s freaky about this was that not everyone was pleased with the idea. “It’s absurd and embarrassing,” said Tammy Bruce, president of the Los Angeles chapter of the National Organization for Women, said to the LA Times. “Declaring a day in celebration of a character that exists to slaughter people is absolutely horrendous.”
