Eastwooding: Like Tebowing, But Crankier

If you’d told us 82-year-old Oscar-winning filmmaker Clint Eastwood would become the inspiration for a meme, we would have assumed it would involve squinting menacingly and possibly blowing evildoers away. But no. Instead, it involves scolding empty chairs. (Note to selves: Never, ever get old.)

On the final night of the Republican National Convention, Eastwood spoke to and scolded “invisible Obama,” portrayed convincingly by an empty chair, for several minutes. After he let zingers fly and responded to imagined taunts — “What do you mean, ‘Shut up?’” — photos of people pointing at empty chairs inevitably hit the Internet …
