South Beach Diet for Men
The Gist: Similar to Atkins, the focus of South Beach is to cut carbs, control your insulin level and get your body to store less fat. So there’s a lot of “good fat and carbs vs. bad fat and carbs” action, and plenty of lean, high-protein meals.
Pros: You still get to eat meat, eggs, nuts, and tons of veggies. Breakfast is mandatory. There’s no strict portion control or counting. Rapid weight loss is usually reported within the first few weeks.
Cons: Low-fat cheese. No seconds. You have to give up pretty much all fun carbs (pasta, rice, cereal, potatoes, fruit, pastries, etc.) for the first two weeks if you can take it. (Why are carbs the most fun food group there is? Not fair.) After that, it’s a crapshoot whether you’ll keep the weight off while you add those carbs back in. Oh, and got a sweet tooth? Curb it.
