More than 80 percent of the adult population drinks coffee, which explains why we’re so jittery and have to take a leak every few minutes. Still, most of that 80 percent is not drinking the quality coffee they crave. Why? Because they have no idea what to look for in a quality brew.

According to coffee experts, the grind is one of the most important yet overlooked elements in the  brewing process, but it is something you can learn at a barista course. And a new study tells us that a simple tweak to the grinding process can render incredible results. All you need to do: chill your beans before grinding.

A study published in the journal Scientific Reports was conducted by students at the University of Bath to conclude that chilling roasted coffee beans leads to smaller particles being produced during the grinding process.  When the particles from the grind are finer more flavor is extracted during the brewing process. The researchers also found and said that the temperature of the beans should be more constant to help achieve a consistent grind.
