Why it shouldn’t have flopped: Although Steve Carrell wasn’t the box office score he has become, he was still a name and part of a thriving franchise. And even still, nobody expected him to steer the ship into a $88.3 million hole.
Why it flopped: People expected to see Jim Carrey in Bruce Almighty 2, and the movie wasn’t all that strong. Funny bits, but a bit of funny doesn’t put asses in seats.
What could have saved it: Some space from Bruce. It wasn’t as funny as its predecessor, but it wasn’t as bad as the loss makes it seem.
