If you’re like us when you have a jackhammer between your skull you’ll take just about anything short of knockoff meth to rid ourselves of a headache. But sometimes drugs — and of course we mean stuff like Advil or ibuprofen — isn’t always available, or you’re too lazy to go to the store to buy some. For those cases, a little preparation can go a long way. Having things like fresh ginger, ice, and essential oils on hand can come in handy when you’re looking for natural ways to get rid of a headache.
#1. Ginger Tea
Add three to four slices of fresh ginger root to 16 ounces of water. Crank on some heat and let it sit in a covered pot and let it steep for 30 minutes. Then — that’s right — drink it. Ginger stops prostaglandins from forming. Prostaglandins are responsible for inflammation and discomfort.
#2. An Ice Pack
Placing an ice pack on your forehead will shrink the blood vessels that put pressure on nerve endings and cause pain. However, only an idiot would put ice directly onto their skin and not expect to get soaking wet. Toss a handful of ice cubes in a bag and wrap it in a hand towel. If you’re out of ice cubes, use a bag of frozen veggies.
#3. Take Feverfew
Studies show that feverfew has anti-inflammatory qualities. Whether you go with capsules Nature’s Way Feverfew Leaves ($8 @ Amazon.com) or make tea with the leaves, consuming it a few times a day can help you get rid of a headache naturally.
