9 Things To Know Before Getting a Dog

9 Things Guys Should Know Before Getting a Dog size

5. Size Matter … Sort Of
In general, smaller dogs are easier to handle and require less maintenance, food, and exercise. But big dogs, such as greyhounds or great danes, can be good apartment dogs too.

“If you live somewhere small and you don’t exercise your dog, large or small, you should expect things to get ruined,” says Chris Burns, a professional K-9 educator and proprietor of Dog’s Best Friend training service in Verona, New Jersey. “You need to tire them out. That’s key. I have a 900-square-foot apartment and we’ve had three dogs living here at once and they were fine. And that’s because we fulfilled their exercise needs when we were outside. That way when they’re inside, it’s time to relax.

“As long as they get proper exercise, big dogs can live in small areas without a problem. But me personally, I’m a small-dog guy for life. They’re a lot of fun. I have a Jack Russell and he likes to do all the things I like to do, activity-wise. So be open-minded when it comes to size.”

That’s really solid advice, and we’re too refined to follow it up with a classless dick joke.
