TIKAL
This Mayan city in the Guatemalan jungle has a bunch of badass temples and palaces. Many archeologists believe Tikal was the “capital” of the Mayan empire and was once a trading post for granite, quartzite, pyrite, jade, and slate. But then something happened, and the city’s (relatively) large population … disappeared. Archaeologists think it may have been a combination of too many people and too little food. Fun fact: The planet Yavin 4 in the original Star Wars (below) is actually Tikal.
