In Rudy, Coach Dan Devine gives one of the greatest movie locker room speeches of all time. However, he also blocks poor li’l Rudy Ruettiger’s dream of suiting up for Notre Dame in an actual game. The real-life Devine — he’s one of several fictionalized but actual coaches on our list, two of whom coached the Irish — was understandably pretty pissed that he was portrayed as a villain in the film. Why? As Devine pointed out, the poignant protest Rudy’s teammates initiated in the movie never happened in real life.
