We know, we know. Your smartphone keeps time. But there’s a reason wristwatches aren’t obsolete — slapping a cumbersome rectangle to your wrist doesn’t add style, class, or sophistication to your look. Wearing the right timepiece does. And while some watches can cost as much as a BMW, you can find great deals that fit into a tight budget. To prove it, we spoke with Stephen Pulvirent from watch website Hodinkee about five cool men’s watches that all cost less than $200.
#1. Avi-8 Lancaster Bomber Watch ($112 @ Amazon.com)
Sporting vintage aviation style, this analog watch features white numbers on a green dial along with a circular date window. Its ion-plated, rose gold-colored, stainless steel case and buckle are complemented by the contrast of white stitching on a black leather strap. Japanese quartz movement offers superb functionality. Water-resistant to 165 feet, it is a great timepiece for swimmers as well.
#2. Orient Capital ($99 @ Amazon.com)
With a slim design and a minimalist look, Pulvirent insists that watches like the Orient Capital have earned the brand its cult-like following. And can you blame Orient disciples? The watch’s analog quartz movement alongside the sleek lines utilized by the watch’s bands and hour indexes (finished with domed crystal glass) ensure that this watch is a precise machine with classic looks.
#3. BOSS Sao Paulo Watch ($175 @ Amazon.com)
A bold choice with a bold design. This water resistant watch is wrapped in gold and silver stainless steel, with a sleek watch head. The black interior, with gold lines, day and date subdials, are all combined into a water-resistant, durable design.
#4. Vestal Doppler Watch ($200 @ Amazon.com)
Chocolate brown calfskin leather wraps around your wrist while the case displays classic numbers with a three-hand premium analog. In short, the Doppler is a sleek yet simple and sophisticated style.
