The Show Tackled Social Issues
At the time, the writers of Cheers’ were so bold as to tackle various taboo topics like homosexuality, alcoholism and so on. They were always carried out humorously, of course. For instance, writers Ken Levine and David Isaacs both received a GLAAD Media Award for the episode “The Boys in the Bar,” in which one of Sam’s former teammates comes out of the closet.
