So, uh, how do you sharpen a knife?
Sharpening relies mostly on preference. Lots of people have settled on one overall technique that works best for them, rather than subscribing to multiple ways of sharpening their knives; truthfully, though, the more practical approach would be to choose your sharpening technique based on what resources are available to you.
Can you give us a couple of examples?
Say you’re at home: You may want to rely on the convenience of a counter top stone you can take your time honing your Case knife on. An Arkansas stone offers a nice experience for someone who has time to slowly grind a Case blade to their liking. But if you find yourself with a dull blade out in the field? That’s when a diamond sharpener with a carbide tip would prove more appropriate.
Then again, I’ve also met people who swear nothing beats the bottom of a ceramic coffee cup. So … there’s that.
