In the weeks following the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, a blockbuster benefit concert for New York City was organized by Paul McCartney. Appearances were made by The Who, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, David Bowie, Elton John, Eric Clapton, Billy Joel, Jay-Z (sorry, we mean Jay Z), Kid Rock, Adam Sandler (as his SNL character Operaman, obviously), Joe Torre, Howard Stern, and then-Mayor Rudy Giuliani. More than $35 million was raised from the five-hour broadcast.
