#4. Universal Soldier 3: The Reckoning
Former soldier Luc Devereaux and his friend, Veronica Robert, try to expose the CIA’s Universal Soldier project. Nevertheless, the attempt turns sour, forcing the two into hiding. Their time grows short as the CIA creates a Universal Soldier clone of Luc’s brother to assassinate Luc and Veronica.
Above all, it’s gratuitous violence with a plot that leans heavily on other flicks, like Apocalypse Now. Nothing wrong with gratuitous violence done right — John Wick rules — but when it’s shitty, it’s shitty. Also, the heroes and villains aren’t well defined, leaving viewers hating everyone because there’s so much hate to pass around it just feels like the right thing to do.
*Update, there’s now a Universal Soldier 4. Ugh.
