In 1977 at the London Film Festival, Carpenter met movie financier Moustapha Akkad at the screening of Assault on Precinct 13, which Carpenter directed. Eventually, Akkad founded the movie with his partner, Irwin Yablans. Carpenter’s wage for writing screenplay, directing the film, and composing the music for the first Halloween was about $10,000. Plus, rights to 10 percent of the film’s profits. It only took $320,00 and precisely 21 days to make money spent making the film.
