M.A.S.H. has gone down in history as one of the most influential TV comedy dramas of all time. And one of the key characters, McLean Stevenson, who played Lieutenant Colonel Henry Blake, wanted to leave after the 3rd season. At the beginning, McLean auditioned for Hawkeye Pierce, a role that was later on entrusted to Alan Alda who carried it perfectly.
