6. THERE’S A LARGE GAP IN YOUR EMPLOYMENT HISTORY
Unless you were wasting time collecting unemployment and watching Netflix, be honest. “Tell the interviewer what you did during that time to make yourself a more valuable asset,” McNab suggests. “’‘I needed time off to figure out what I really want to do with my career, so I took courses, talked to leaders in the field, etc.’”
If the gap in your history was for personal reasons, say so. There’s no need to discuss the specifics regarding your bout with colitis, but you can explain that you didn’t feel balancing your medical (or personal or family) challenges with work enabled you to perform your job at your usual high standard.
