Trick 2: Drink lemon water
If you’ve ever suffered the unfortunate fate of being around someone doing a week-long cleanse or fast, lemon is great at preventing your body from retaining water. Water retention is caused by having too much sodium, so if you eat out, eat processed foods, or use a lot of salt-based seasonings, Conrad says you’re likely retaining water and “five pounds of water can appear to be fat.” Drinking lemon water will flush sodium out of your system and within two days you’ll notice a difference in your gut. Sugar-laden store-bought lemonade isn’t an option, but if you squeeze enough lemon juice into your water, it tastes kinda like lemonade. Delightful!
