High-intensity interval training  (HIIT) mixes up periods of intense work, like sprints, with periods of low-intensity, like jogging or walking; it’s a great method for causing your metabolic rate to fluctuate, which causes you to burn more calories; low-intensity interval training is a waste of time and space.
