Buffy’s Was A Breath of Fresh Air
Buffy the Vampire Slayer arrived during just in time to refresh the horror genre. Joss Whedon commented how he wrote Buffy’s character partially as in response to all those archetypical “damsels in distress” characters that were depicted in traditional horror flicks. Whedon saw the potential to create a powerful female lead, one that many women can look up to. Buffy debuted one year after the movie Scream. By the way, Sarah Michelle Gellar appeared in Scream 2 and I Know What You Did Last Summer. Both of these were written by Kevin Williamson, who also wrote Dawson’s Creek.
