Spike Actor Was Not British
Actor James Marsters, who played the role of Spike, was not British. He’s is from California and when he auditioned he actually had a Texas accent. In time, the producers opted that being a Londoner would be better suit Spike’s character. Anthony Head, who played the character of Rupert Giles in the show, ended up being the dialect coach to James Marsters.
Buffy Had Trouble With Valley Girl Speech
Sarah Michelle Gellar’s accent and way of talking led to something called Buffyspeak. The way of talking is actually based on California Valley girl speech, and this is something that occasionally made things difficult for Gellar and she admitted to having struggled with the dialogue because of that.
