Buffy Was Almost Sabrina
Well, in a manner of speaking. Before Sarah Michelle Gellar accepted the role of Buffy, she was actually up for the lead in role Sabrina Spellman in Sabrina, the Teenage Witch. She won the part of Buffy Summers, snatching it from Selma Blair and Katie Holmes, who ended up on other different WB shows (Dawson’s Creek and Zoe, Duncan, Jack and Jane).
The Story of Cordelia
So, now we know that Buffy was supposed to Cordelia, and Cordelia was supposed to be Buffy. However, another interesting little fact is that Charisma Carpenter wasn’t at all keen on playing Cordelia, seeing as she played a bitchy character in Aaron Spelling’s Malibu Shores, so she wasn’t interested in going down another similar road. She was told by her agent that she couldn’t be typecast, because she was still unknown, and eventually she gave up and accepted the role. Smart decision.
